TV Antenna Rotor

A TV antenna rotator or rotor is a device that is mounted to your antenna and operates by a motor. The device allows you to rotate or turn your outdoor television antenna much more conveniently than by climbing up on your rooftop and turning it manually. An antenna rotor should be used when television signals are being broadcast to different directions from different towers and when a single television antenna cannot accommodate all of these different locations. The rotator has two basic parts. The first part is the indoor control unit that allows you to conveniently change the direction of your television antenna when needed. The second part is the outdoor drive unit which actually turns your antenna. These two parts are connected by using a three conductor wire that carries control signals from the unit inside to the outdoor drive unit on your antenna.

You can use pliers and a screwdriver to tighten the clamps down and ensure that your rotor is tightly secured to the mast. Once this is done, slide your antenna down into the rotor’s top. You should use the support pole that is on your antenna mast to attach the antenna to the rotator.

You will need to determine the due North direction. Using a compass is an excellent idea. Once you have determined the proper direction, rotate your antenna to point in this Northern direction. You should then use the pliers and screwdriver again to tighten down the second set of clamps and again secure your antenna to your rotor while it is pointing north. Once you have secured the antenna pointing north, take the screwdriver and loosen and then completely remove the screws that are located on the bottom on your rotor. This will allow you access to the wiring strip that is located underneath the bottom plate.

A control cable should have been included in your kit. Be sure to attach the correct end of the control cable to the wiring strip located at the base of your antenna rotor. Once this has been done you can replace the bottom plate and replace the screws that were holding it down. Be certain when you purchase a TV antenna rotor that instructions are included. You should also be certain of just what is included in the kit and of any other necessities that you will need to purchase prior to installing the rotator.

Once you have correctly installed the rotator on your television antenna, you can plug the control unit into the wall in the room in which you want it installed. You should turn on the unit and then rotate the dial in the direction that you want in order to watch specific television channels. It is important that you use care and safety when installing a television antenna rotator. Never mount your antenna or your rotor close to a power line and always use care when traveling up and down from the roof of your home. You may find that many electronics stores and home improvement stores offer installation of rotators for your antenna. Be certain that you check for these options when purchasing your rotator if you will need professional installation.
