A toaster is considered a staple in most homes so that the homeowners can make toast, bagels, and other pastries. With a toaster in the home you can make a lot of things in a very short period of time. It’s often until your toaster is not working that you realize how often you really do use your toaster and how much you like it. If your toaster is no longer working or you just need to buy one for the first time, you do have some things to consider before you buy.

You may be thinking that a toaster is a pretty straight forward purchase, but really you do have a lot of options. The first thing you need to consider is how much counter space you have. There are some toasters that are much bigger than others and you need to have a clear idea of where you will be storing your toaster. Will you just be bringing it out when you use it, or will it stay on your counter? Would you rather mount the toaster to the underside of a cabinet? As you can see, where you plan to store your toaster really does matter!

Next, you need to consider how often you will use your toaster. If you don’t use your toaster all that often you can get away with purchasing something that is very affordable and it will probably last you years. Of course, if you are going to be using your toaster several times a day you may want to invest in something that is just a little bit better quality so it holds up well over time. There are also differences between commercial and residential use toasters, which one is the right one for you? If you are using your toaster for a business you would be well advised to buy a commercial toaster because it will just hold up so much better over time.

Another thing that you should consider before you buy is what you will be toasting. If you will only be using your toaster for bread than you can buy a pretty basic toaster and have it work fine. If you want to toast bagels, pastries, or even English muffins you may want to consider buying one of the toasters that have wider slots in them as this will allow you to toast things without burning them on the sides.

Yet another thing to consider is how much you want to be able to toast at one time. The typical toaster has just two slots for toasting at a time, but you can buy a toaster that has four and even six slots so you can toast for the whole family at the same time, if you would like. Of course, if the toaster is just for you than you wouldn’t need something this large. Really stop and consider what you will be toasting and how much you will be toasting at one time. This will help guide you in your choices here.

Last but not least, you need to consider your budget. Luckily, toasters are generally pretty affordable. Of course your two slot basic toaster is going to be the most affordable and it just goes up from there. You can buy something really nice that is going to last you a long time for well under $100 and sometimes even less than $50. Just shop around and get an idea of what is out there for you to use. A toaster really is an integral part of the cooking process, so make sure that you have one that will allow you to do everything you need to do when you are in the kitchen.
