Slow Cooker

One of the best ways of making meals, and one of the easiest, is to use a slow cooker. You can cook a huge variety of things in a slow cooker – soups, stews, chicken breasts, roasts, just about anything – and the best part is that there’s very little you have to do. In fact, a slow cooker is a great way of treating yourself to an amazing meal without really having to cook the meal!

A slow cooker operates somewhat like an oven in that you simply prepare your food, put it in the slow cooker’s inner container, and fill that container with water. The slow cooker heats up the inner container and the water in it. This slowly cooks the food immersed in the water. This makes the meat incredibly tender and the vegetables very juicy and tasty. You can add a variety of spices to the mixture, allowing you to season your meals in any way you want.

Now, as one would expect, a slow cooker is, well, slow. Many meals take six hours or more to cook. While many slow cookers do have a high heat setting, you still shouldn’t expect to get a meal out of a slow cooker in anything less than four hours, and that’s pushing it. A slow cooker is meant to be one of those things that you set in the morning and enjoy at dinner, although you can also start your slow cooker before you go to bed and have a meal ready for lunch.

You might wonder why you’d want to use a slow cooker since it takes so long to produce a meal. Well, many will put together their meal, set their slow cooker, and then go off to work or to run errands. When they return home after a long day, dinner is right there, done. All they have to do is drain the water and they’ve got a meal. There’s no need to do anything else. As you can see, this is very convenient, especially if you’re always on the go. With just a little preparation time, you can have a complete meal – meat and vegetables – without doing any major cooking.

You can make many different types of meals in a slow cooker. It doesn’t only do soup, stew, and various meats, but you can even find some slow cooker dessert recipes. No matter what you’re thinking about eating, you’ll most likely be able to find a recipe for cooking it in a slow cooker. Again, all you have to do is prepare the food, put it in the slow cooker, set it, and in half a day or so, you’ve got a delicious meal just waiting for you to eat it.

Slow cookers are very popular these days, and there are many different recipe books out there written especially for slow cookers. You can also find many recipes online or on cooking channels. If you’re not much of a cook, don’t worry. Many slow cooker recipes are very basic and don’t require much, if any, special cooking knowledge or skills to put together. In fact, some are as simple as opening a package of meat, cutting up a few potatoes and carrots, and dumping them in the water. It’s so simple, just about anyone could do it.

Slow cookers come in a variety of sizes. The smallest ones can hold enough food for one person, but the larger sized slow cookers can hold enough food for an entire family. Some slow cookers even include a travel bag for the inner container. Simply take it out, place it in the insulated bag and you’ve got a mobile meal or dish for your next potluck event or holiday.
