MIDI Keyboard Controller

The main idea behind the MIDI keyboard controller is to allow performers on stage to produce and control multiple sounds, just by using one keyboard. This obviously makes performing on stage a lot easier, and the use of one keyboard to produce multiple sounds is very convenient. They are not just good for live performers, though. Anyone can use them. Maybe you are an amateur musician and want to enhance your playing? Or, maybe you are a film maker and you need to produce some sound effects. Whatever it is that you do, you can benefit from a MIDI keyboard controller.

The keyboard controller itself is a musical device that has various keys for different functions. Some of the keys are for the piano, some are synthesizers, and there are also sliders and other buttons that perform other important functions. The data produced by the controller itself then transmits to a computer. The great thing about these controllers is how easy they are to move around. They are perfect for a band who tours around, as they take up little space, and aren’t very difficult to set up wherever you are. There are so many things that you can do with a MIDI keyboard controller, and so many sounds that you can produce.

The first thing that you will notice about a MIDI keyboard controller is that some of the keys look like that of the piano, and produce the piano sounds. As well as this, you will find sliders that provide different functions, and buttons.

Many MIDI keyboard controllers have different functions. For example, some will have a socket for a foot pedal. These are usually used as a sustain pedal. A lot will have a direct USB connection to allow you to connect it to your laptop or to a computer. By doing this, the user can produce different sounds and link them together to form a track.

Some MIDI keyboard controllers will have no sound capabilities whatsoever. To be able to use one of these, the user will need to have another MIDI device capable of reading the data and producing the correct sounds. Usually, the second MIDI device will be a computer with the software installed to produce the desired sounds. These are particularly good for working in a studio, or performing live on stage. Or, even if you just want to experiment with the sounds yourself, you don’t have to be a music genius.

Connecting a MIDI keyboard controller to a computer is a relatively simple and easy process that anyone can do, following the instructions of course. If your MIDI Keyboard Controller comes with a USB socket, and a USB cable, then this is incredibly easy. Not all keyboards are USB enabled, though. If yours is, then simply plug the cable into your MIDI keyboard controller, and plug the other end into the USB port of your computer.

Other methods are a little more complex, and include MIDI to MIDI cables, as well as various other methods. MIDI keyboard controllers themselves will vary in price. If you are on a tight budget, then you may have to settle for a more basic design that doesn’t have as many functions. These will be a lot cheaper, but probably won’t do many advanced things, making them difficult to work with. However, if you have a larger budget then you will be able to buy one that does a lot more. The more advanced models are generally easier to use once you get used to it, and they are also easier to install. You will need to shop around to find what you are looking for, but there is something to suit anyone and everyone.
