Digital Television Antenna

If your cable TV bill is getting out of hand and you are looking for ways to cut down on your monthly expenses, why not switch over to free TV? Free digital HDTV can become a reality for you if you purchase a digital TV antenna so that you get the stunning picture quality that you know your HDTV is capable of.

A digital TV antenna will bring in over the air (OTA) signals. If you are not used to free TV, you may not know what a digital TV antenna can do for you. OTA digital TV channels are free to the public. The only expense for you is the purchase of the television set and the digital TV antenna.

You can get all the access you would like to your local television channels. If you have cable or satellite TV, you know that you are paying extra just to get access to your local channels that your neighbor may be getting for free.

It has been estimated that Americans are currently spending about 72 billion dollars a year on cable and satellite TV. They are paying for channels they can receive from their local stations at no cost if they have a digital TV antenna for their digital television set.

Your digital TV antenna needs a tuner to receive digital TV signals. Most new HDTV’s already have the tuner built into them. If your television mentions that it has an ATSC tuner, you already have what you need. If you do not know what digital television stations are in your area, you can go to AntennaWeb.org to find out.

If you already have an old antenna, it may not be compatible with the new digital signals in your area so you will need to purchase a new digital TV antenna. An amplified indoor antenna may be your best bet. These antennas are reasonably priced and are sold for about $30-$40. If you get an indoor digital TV antenna you will not have all the hassles of installing a new outdoor HDTV antenna.

Some of the indoor digital antennas are Terk HDTVa, RCA ANT525, Phillips PHDTV3 and GE 24775. These are engineered to receive both VHF and UHF channels and are optimized to receive local HDTV channels if they are used with a compatible TV and receiver/tuner. Look for one that has a Dual-Drive amplifier so that you will get clear reception form both near and far HDTV and DTV stations. The best kind will be able to be orientated in the room both horizontally and vertically so that you can get optimum reception of OTA broadcasts and are very easy to install. Indoor digital TV antennas can be used by people who live within city limits or who are located in the suburbs. The allow reception of HDTV broadcasts in full resolution. You can set most antennas to receive signals that are weak also.

Outdoor digital TV antennas are manufactured by different companies and with some of the most popular ones being the Clearstream4, DB8 Multi Directional, Direct DB4 and the Terk HD-TVS. Some of these can pull in a weak signal from up to 70 miles away without and amplifier. However, these are difficult to install but the picture and sound are outstanding. If you live in a rural area, the Clearstream4 is the best one for you. It is easily mounted in your attic as the dimensions are only 19″ Hx20″Wx4.5″D. The Direct DB4 will also fit in the attic. The cost of an outdoor digital TV antenna can be up to a hundred dollars or a little more depending on the brand or model.
