Coby MP3 Player

The digital music revolution has unleashed a flood of MP3 players onto the market in recent years. Some models are packed with features but are also very expensive, while other models sold at bargain-basement prices lack many important features. The high prices of the popular brands is forcing many consumers to consider the cheaper brands. A Coby MP3 player is an affordable alternative to the expensive brands. The extensive range already includes several micro players and video players, and there are sure to be many more as their popularity continues to grow.

Coby Electronics Corporation is an American manufacturer that makes a wide range of consumer electronics. Coby makes MP players, netbooks, portable dvd players, LCD televisions, digital picture frames, home theater systems, and many other products. The company sells many products under its own brand name but it also makes them for other brands, like Samsung and NEC. In the MP3 player market, Coby faces strong competition from the Apple iPod and the Microsoft Zune. The high prices of these two market leaders have forced many consumers to consider alternatives, like the Coby MP3 player.

An MP3 player is any device that plays music stored in the MP3 format. It could be a mobile phone or a laptop computer, but most are small battery-powered devices that only play music. The basic models are little more than a couple of computer chips powered by a tiny battery, sometimes with a tiny screen that is hard to read. The advanced models have a larger screen, better controls, larger battery, and sometimes a camera for taking photos and videos. Storing music as raw data takes up too much space in the memory, so a compression format is used to allow more songs to be stored. The MP3 format is not the only format but it is the most common one used right now.

The smallest Coby MP3 player is the MP201 Micro Clip. Like the second-generation iPod Shuffle, there is a spring clip on the back that allows it to be worn on a tie, pocket, or lapel. In fact, the elongated body of the MP201 makes it look very similar to a tie clip. The MP201 plays MP3 and WMA music files, and lasts for about seven hours on a full charge. It also has a shuffle function that plays songs at random if you choose to use it. Around 400 songs can be stored in the 2GB of flash memory, provided that they are of average length and quality. Along with a 3.5mm jack for the headphones, the MP201 has a USB 2.0 plug for transferring music and recharging its battery.

The MP837 Touchscreen Multimedia Player is the largest and most feature-packed Coby MP3 player in the range. The three-inch TFT LCD widescreen has a resolution of 272 by 480 pixels. The screen is also touch-sensitive, allowing you to navigate the music and video library with your fingers. Media support includes most of the popular file formats used for storing photos, music, and videos. The 8GB version can store around 1500 songs but the 16GB can hold double that amount. The MP837 also has an integrated FM radio, 3.5mm headphone jack, and USB 2.0 plug. The large battery allows it to play up to 22 hours of audio on a single charge.

The MP201 and the MP837 are just two models in the Coby MP3 player range. There are ten other models to choose from so you should have no trouble finding one you like. Coby also make several accessories including isolating earphones, FM transmitters, and protective cases. Isolating earphones are great for blocking out background noise in crowded places. An FM transmitter allows audio from a Coby MP3 player to be played through the speakers in a motor vehicle, simply by tuning the radio to the frequency of the FM transmitter.
